About the Opportunity

We are looking for an efficient Human Resources (HR) Manager to undertake the overall administration and provision of all HR duties. This will be a temporary contract position for maternity leave starting January 2019. Potential for full time employment following contract.

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of Human Resources as well as general administrative responsibilities. Ability to work autonomously and efficiently to ensure the end-to-end running of HR activities and operations is essential. You should be proficient in the hiring process, employee record management, training, HRIS software, addressing employee relations issues, along with knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, employment standards, and strong written communication skills for correspondence, reports and other company materials.

  • Manage the recruitment process including sourcing candidates, shortlisting, scheduling interviews, performing background checks, issuing employment contracts etc.
  • Perform employee orientations, on boarding/off-boarding and updating employee records.
  • Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests.
  • Maintain all employee records and data ensuring all employment requirements and regulatory standards are met.
  • Process and administer payroll and health benefits and liaise with other departments.
  • Update and train employees with respect to company policies, coordinate external employee training sessions and seminars.
  • Coordinate and assist supervisors in employee performance management.
  • Assist the Research and Development (R&D) department ensuring the workplace meets WorkSafeBC standards.
  • Manage and arrange HR events/activities.
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activity.
  • Manage HR projects (i.e.: collecting employee feedback/surveys).
  • Ad-hoc duties as assigned by management.


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent in Human Resources Management - CHRP is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years proven Canadian experience.
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of human resource processes and best practices.
  • Experience and good working knowledge of HRIS software (BambooHR, Ceridian an asset).
  • Outstanding communications (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is a MUST.
  • Ability to handle data with confidentiality.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines.
  • Well versed and thorough knowledge of employment standards.
  • Ability to work with diverse group of people.


You will do well in this role if you have the ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, multitasking, and decision-making skills are essential, as is good time management and prioritization skills. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. 

Above all, you will have excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to give presentations as required. Strong team building, training, and coaching skills will be the key to your success in this role.
